Putin riding high in politician of the year poll ... and hints that he may want his old job back
Vladimir Putin has been crowned Russia’s “politician of the year” in an authoritative opinion poll, and is well placed to take back his old job as president in a little over two years if he wants.
The result caps a difficult year for the prime minister but one during which he easily out-manoeuvred his presidential successor, Dmitry Medvedev, on almost every level. Mr Putin was forced to surrender the presidency just over a year and a half ago due to constitutional rules.
