Riots over Wade's third-term bid

VIOLENCE has erupted in Senegal after the country's top court let President Abdoulaye Wade run for a third term in office.

Officials claim a police officer was killed in the unrest as protesters set fire to buildings and barricades in the capital.

Youths threw stones at riot police who responded by firing tear gas, while Wade's party headquarters were burned down in Kaolack. Unrest was also reported in Thies and Mbour, near Dakar.
