The question is whether it is too late to make a difference.
Mr Romney could see a burst of fundraising, new interest from undecided voters and a wave of support from his fellow Republicans after he appeared to have emerged as a clear victor in his first face-to-face confrontation with Mr Obama and will likely benefit from favour- able news coverage as well.
