In a clear shift four weeks before the November 6 election, a new round of opinion polls showed essentially a dead heat after a strong debate performance by Mr Romney last week.
A Reuters/Ipsos daily tracking poll yesterday found Mr Obama and Mr Romney tied among likely voters at 45% each.
