Rulers play Islam card in votes bid

KUALA LUMPUR:

Malaysia's ruling party, stung by an election setback in May, is burnishing its Islamic credentials to gain ground among ethnic Malay voters in a move that could ramp up religious tension.

Coalition leader the United Malays National Organisation was deserted in the poll by ethnic Chinese and Muslim Malays, its traditional bedrock.
