Russia's foreign minister has urged the country's parliament to agree a tough response to a US law punishing Russian human rights violators, risking frostier relations with Washington.
Moscow has already announced restrictions on American meat imports, but Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the parliament should now respond to the US Senate's so-called Magnitsky Act. The State Duma, or lower house, will discuss retaliation this week.
