SECURITY forces were blockading roads around a desert prison in central Saudi Arabia yesterday where relatives of inmates were staging a demonstration to demand their release – a rare protest in the world's biggest oil exporter.
More than 100 people, including 13 children, had gathered since Sunday in the desert around the prison in Qassim province but were told they would be arrested if they tried to leave, protesters said by telephone.
