beijing: Violence has left 21 people dead in China's far-west region in what officials called a terrorist attack.
Nine locals, six police and six ethnic Uighurs died in yesterday's incident in Xinjiang, which involved axes, knives, a gun and ended with a house burning down. There was no immediate claim of responsibility but China blamed previous attacks on Islamic separatists.
