SOFIA:
Prosecutors yesterday charged senior magistrates Veselin Pengezov and Petar Petkov with embezzling EU funds in a scandal that has dented public trust in the judiciary system of the poorest member state. Bulgaria is under fire from the EU over its failure to reform its inefficient judicial system and to convict senior officials of graft.
