Turkey hits back at Syria

Turkey has killed several Syrian soldiers as it stepped up its retaliation for the war-torn country's deadly shelling of one of its towns.

The Turkish parliament approved further military action in the event of another spillover of the Syrian conflict.

It came after Syria apologised through the United Nations for the shelling of Akcakale in south-east Turkey on Wednesday, which killed five civilians, and said it would not happen again.
