The Capitol building was briefly locked down after a woman was thought to have been shot dead after her car rammed a White House barricade.
One official said early reports suggested the woman had died. A police officer was injured. Law enforcement officers swarmed over the area and reports suggested a child was in the car. Capitol police chief Kim Dine said they believed the incident was isolated. The incident rattled a city coming to terms with last month's shooting dead of 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard.
