Donald Trump clashed with reporters after accusing one website of being a "pile of garbage" and warning it would "suffer the consequences" for publishing unsubstantiated lurid details about him.

BuzzFeed has faced criticism for posting a copy of a dossier reportedly compiled by a retired British spy that contains embarrassing allegations about the president-elect.

Intelligence officers last week briefed the Republican and President Barack Obama about the document purporting to contain information about compromising details held by the Russian.

Reports about the dossier then emerged last night on CNN.

In tweets ahead of the press conference, the Republican suggested US intelligence agencies are Nazis for allowing the information to be leaked.

Asked about the claim, he replied: "It was disgraceful, disgraceful that intelligence agencies allowed any information that turned out to be so false and fake out.

"And I say that and I say that. And that's something that Nazi Germany would have done and did do.

"I think it's a disgrace that information that was false and fake and never happened got released to the public.

"As far as BuzzFeed, which is a failing pile of garbage, writing it, I think they are going to suffer the consequences. They already are.

"As far as CNN going out of their way to build it up ..."

The president-elect dismissed the channel's claim his lawyer Michael Cohen met with Russian officials during the election campaign.

He then repeatedly refused to take a question from a CNN correspondent, saying: "I'm not going to give you a question, you are fake news."
