Congratulations to all concerned in the successful co-operation that led to the purchase of the large Guthrie painting now to be shared between Glasgow and Edinburgh ("Glasgow Boy masterpiece sells for £637,500 in Scots joint venture", The Herald, November 17).

Let's hope this betokens many more loans and exchanges between Glasgow Life and the National Galleries. Edinburgh has the art held on behalf of the nation (but rarely shares); Glasgow has the McLellan Galleries (crying out for a loan exhibition). And here's a further thought: what about the National Galleries in Edinburgh taking a long lease of the Maclellan Galleries in Glasgow?
