Casting around for a simple solution to the stramash about whether denying prisoners convicted of a crime the right to vote is to deny them their human rights, one solution would be to offer them that right in exchange for their agreement to an extension of their sentence (Letters, November 23 & 24).
Say 10%, which I believe reduces automatically to 5%. This would surely be acceptable to the European Court of Human Rights as it allows each prisoner to demonstrate how much (or how little) value they put on this right.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
