The Herald reports Metropolitan Police Federation Chairman John Tully's comment that "the Plebgate investigation is a waste of time and resources ...

we would not be doing this if it wasn't political" ("Plebgate statements branded a waste of time", January 5). An interesting viewpoint. Mr Tully's members made it very much a personal and political attack on the beleaguered Andrew Mitchell by sporting T-shirts emblazoned with disparaging remarks. The vigorous inquiry incepted by Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe is to be commended.
