I was interested to note the words of The Scottish Saltire, brought to our attention by Frederick Jenkins as a putative national anthem, fit almost perfectly to the tune of Advance Australia Fair (Letters, January 7).

I think the word "evermore" would have to be replaced with "for evermore" to maintain the rhythm of the music.

I've always admired this anthem, never better than when sung by Judith Durham (available on YouTube); however if we adopt the same tune for our anthem it might cause confusion when Scotland play Australia at Murrayfield.

I'd go for Scots Wha Hae every time – the very best rendition is by Dick Gaughan (also available on YouTube, performed in the presence of the saintly Maya Angelou).
