THE pace of change can sometimes run ahead of common sense.

I was interested to read that doctors are no longer allowed to wear wrist watches in the wards of the hospital I used to work in ("Hospital doctors breached hygiene rules", The Herald, January 10). I assume that if doctors wish to measure a patient's pulse rate they now have to use their mobile phone.

Meaningful infection control should include a freshly laundered scrub suit each day for each doctor on duty. Unfortunately this is not available on the grounds of cost.
