POOR old Andy Murray.

He may be 25 and a global sporting superstar, but his mother Judy still has a knack for embarrassing her famous son.

Having previously referred to his Wimbledon rival Feliciano Lopez as "Deliciano" and admitted she once spent 60p on a topless postcard of Scottish rugby player Chris Paterson, Judy has now revealed her latest crush: former US Open champion Pat Rafter.

She posted on Twitter: "Australian Open is running a competition to win breakfast with Pat Rafter. One for the laydees. SUPERSWOON. I've been pressing resend since 8am."

Quite what Andy – who previously joked, "It's about time she stopped that nonsense. It makes me want to throw up" – thinks of his mother's latest expression of desire is anyone's guess.

Granted, the phrase "laydees" may merit a stint in the vocabulary sin bin, but good on her, I say. And compared to some celebrities, the tennis star gets off lightly.

Spare a thought for Brad Pitt, whose hometown paper published a letter to the editor from his mother criticising President Barack Obama for his support of same-sex marriage.

Pop star Jessica Simpson's father Joe once proudly boasted about his daughter's, um, assets: "She's got double Ds! You can't cover those suckers up!" Although that pales next to Rocco Ritchie, who had to endure his mother Madonna's raunchy stage act – and "wardrobe malfunctions" – on a nightly basis when he DJ'd on her tour.

Meanwhile, Ileana "Ike" Lochte, mother of five-times Olympic champion US swimmer Ryan Lochte, revealed that her son only has time for "one-night stands" and is unable to commit to a girl because he's "always on the go".

Then there's Bert Le Clos, whose exuberant celebrations when swimmer son Chad took Olympic gold became a comedy highlight of London 2012.

Mortifying? Maybe. But perhaps it's parental payback for the "terrible twos", and all those teen tantrums.
