A RECENT report covered the death of Harry Morgan ("Longest-serving veteran of Second World War dies", The Herald, February 2).

According to the article he saw action across France and northern Europe. Included in the list of battles is the Palais Gap. No doubt Sergeant Morgan and his comrades in the Black Watch saw action in many a Palais but, in this instance, I believe the action referred to was more likely to have taken place at the Falaise Gap.
