The Close Theatre Club, founded in 1965 by Michael Goldberg, chairman of the Citizens Theatre, deserves to be included in your history of the theatre ("Curtain rises on radical revamp of the Citizens", February 16).

As the Mitchell Library's theatre collection notes: "It provided a stage for plays which would not otherwise have been commercially viable. Additional activities were late-night films, poetry readings and theatre workshops." During its eight-year run (it was destroyed by fire in 1973), the Close became an artistic, cultural and social hub. Boasting a membership of 2500 including many local celebrities, I suggest there be at the very least some commemoration of it in the refurbished theatre or, perhaps the creation of the Close Theatre 2?
