In his excellent letter (The Herald, February 20), Duncan McFarlane overlooks the fact that what Iain Duncan Smith craves is the opportunity to pursue a virulent right-wing attack on the working class.

And who can deny his success in introducing policies that will allow him to achieve his aims?

In her letter (February 20), Maureen McNeil, asks: Why are we not marching in protest about the fact that there are now 250 food banks across the UK?

The answer can be found in the ineffective opposition mounted in the Westminster Parliament by the David Miliband-led New Labour party, which is more concerned with winning the support of the centre ground in the key English constituencies than in supporting the needs of the working class throughout Britian.
