YOU have to hand it to The Queen, when she says she's coming along to a show, the stars turn up. Here is Her Majesty meeting the performers at a Royal Silver Jubilee Gala at The King's Theatre in Glasgow in 1977. Yes, that's The Jackson Five and Dolly Parton in the line-up. You'd pay good money for them alone. Throw in Ronnie Corbett, Frankie Howard, David Soul, Eric Sykes, and Hattie Jacques then that has to be a good night out.
As a young reporter I was sent to Glasgow Airport to meet Dolly Parton as she arrived. Two burly chaps in her entourage tried to block me approaching her, but a lovely Dolly - goodness she is tiny - beckoned me over, told me she was stunned that a little ole country girl was going to meet a real live queen, and insisted that I drop by to say 'Hi' at the show. Wonder if she remembers...
