A GREAT, award-winning photographer was Arthur Kinloch, but goodness, like many photographers, he embraced brevity when writing captions on the back of photographs. Thus we learn from Arthur the tersest of messages: "Swans resting in Queen's Park" and the date, May, 1964. I search the Glasgow Herald on the nearest dates, but find no mention of the swans. There is a story about Egypt's Aswan Dam, and for a moment I imagined the picture desk reading "Aswan" and telling Arthur they needed a picture of a swan.

So I am unclear as to why these three young lads are harassing the nesting swans - one of them is carrying his fishing net so presumably was in Queen's Park to scoop up baggy minnows. Don't think they would have got too close to the swans mind you. "They can break your arm" is a warning I recall from my youth. Never put it to the test.
