KEVIN McKenna's article ("Time to turn the spotlight on abuse by priests nearer home”, The Herald, February 6) is worth commending. I also look forward to seeing the film this week, respecting the opinion of friends who have viewed it and found it to be a moving experience.

A meeting of an hour with Angela Constance,the Education Secretary is an insult. Whilst it is an initial step, given the distress of the participants further time is crucial.

I have no political axe to grind; I am a member of the SNP. Earlier excellent pieces of investigative journalism in the press and on television, appear to have "gone to ground". We are an "enlightened" Scotland and as such are required to treat this issue with the dignity and respect that it deserves. In comparison to England, the McLellan Commission and the review are insufficient.

How many young lives have been ruined by abuse and how many have taken their own lives as a result of abuse within the Catholic Church? The question has to be asked as to why there has been no funding for White Flowers Alba has come from the Government or the Catholic Church.

As a grandmother, I urge journalists to follow the lead of their colleagues on the Boston Globe. Disclosure in Roget's Thesaurus is described as “unveiling, revelation, divulgence, exposition, whole truth". To disclose is to "bring light". Let there be light.
