DAVID Torrance quotes Tom Lehrer’s National Brotherhood Week (“Tax plan hostility highlights warped world of Holyrood”, The Herald, February 8). Lehrer also remarked that satire was redundant after Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Prize. “You can’t top that” he is reported as saying.

In its insistence that a rise in income tax is not progressive, and in maintaining that it is “protecting Scotland from austerity” while advocating tax cuts for business at the same time as it is forcing councils to cut jobs and services, the SNP is clearly trying to prove Mr Lehrer wrong.
