I WAS pleased to read that the Scottish Open Golf Championship is to return to the west of Scotland in 2017, after several successful years in the north and north-east (“Dundonald to host in 2017 as Scottish Open heads west”, Herald Sport, April 25).
The relatively new Dundonald Links is a worthy addition to the many fine golf courses along this stretch of coastline, and will allow the competitors to adjust their links game prior to the British Open.
We may have to explain to some of our transatlantic visitors that Dundonald is actually the name of the local area, and not a further example of their Republican candidate’s predilection for self-publicity by naming Scottish golf courses after himself.
Donald Trump doesn’t own the Ayrshire venue, which by the way already has a splendid permanent clubhouse, unlike his over-hyped creation north of Aberdeen which still awaits such a basic facility.
And anyway, by next year the seemingly never-ending US Presidential campaign will at last be over, and with any luck Mr Trump will be well and truly a “done Donald”.
