JEREMY Corbyn showed no leadership whatsoever during the EU campaign and thereby handed a UK Brexit victory on a plate. Despite massive Tory infighting, Labour failed to seize the initiative or address the concerns of its core working class voters and is unlikely to win power any time soon.

Nicola Sturgeon clearly has a mandate to hold a second Scottish referendum but prior to this the SNP needs to come up with compelling arguments on currency and the economy. However, it should be noted that the Nordic Passport Union allows free movement across borders in Scandinavia where Norway is outside the EU and only Finland is in the eurozone.

Just as in the EU campaign, the UK OK messages worked in 2014 as they were echoed every day in the right wing press and created an agenda that broadcasters felt obliged to follow. Given the clear different outlooks, it is crazy that the BBC is scrapping three Scottish political programmes (“BBC loses late-night battle of the news shows”, The Herald, June 22) at the very time we need a 30-minute Scottish 10 pm TV news bulletin rather than seeing everything through London metropolitan eyes.

Labour voters in Scotland should realise that they can no longer influence UK politics and concentrate on working towards an outward-looking, social democratic independent Scotland.

IF Hilary Benn and the other “rebels” in the Shadow Cabinet feel that Jeremy Corbyn should no longer be leader of the Labour Party they have a simple method open to them to support their position. Resign their own parliamentary seat forcing a by-election and stand on a platform of change to the leadership as an anti-Corbyn candidate.

I won't hold my breath waiting for this cabal to take this courageous and principled stand.
