I NOTE with interest your report on discussions over a possible tram-train link at Glasgow Airport (“Secrecy row over talks on tram-train link”, The Herald, July 25).

It is probably wise for Network Rail to keep schtum regarding its protracted involvement with the tram-train proposals as the "contentious and challenging ideas" are no doubt just that and so full of holes and riddled with doubt that they leak like the proverbial sieve.

Despite the years of tests, trials and tribulations, the prototype between Sheffield and Rotherham has yet to prove that the tram-train concept is an acceptable form of new rail technology for use in the UK and the continuing delay and uncertainty must surely ring alarm bell' and serve as a severe and timely warning to those contemplating a similar such scheme hereabouts - a warning that they would be well advised to heed.
