IAN W Thomson (Letters, September 21) is to be commended for highlighting the concerns of not only Govan residents but also visitors and outpatients required to attend the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). The whole concept of developing a limited ground footprint was flawed from the outset. The former Southern General estate was already land-locked and difficult for vehicle access.

Glasgow was certainly deserving of a new medical centre of excellence but why off-centre Govan when the former Cowglen military hospital footprint adjacent to M77 could have provided an ideal location?

Not only is Cowglen unfettered by any immediate housing, it also lies equidistant between the former Victoria and Southern General hospitals which the QEUH was primarily created to replace.
