I HAVE no doubt that there will be many who once frequented Cathkin Park regularly looking on with more than a little nostalgia at the news of the possible return of their team to league football (“Third Lanark plotting return to top league after 50 years”,‘ The Herald, October 20).

I recall the words of the Lancastrian Francis Thompson, when he brought to mind illustrious Lancaster cricketers of yesteryear:

“I look through my tears on a soundless-clapping host

As the run-stealers flicker to and fro,

To and fro:-

O my Hornby and my Barlow long ago.”

I wonder how many surviving HI-Hi supporters, reading this week’s news, will be remembering with pleasure episodes of having watched the skills of “my Mason, my Simpson, and my Hilley long ago”.
