IT is reported that Emmanuel Macron is likely to win the French presidential elections (France in the shadow of terror and Le Pen, The World, April 23).

This does not bode well for Britain since he is on record as saying that the UK's decision to leave the EU was a "crime" and he would ensure Britain was given no "undue advantages" in negotiations and pledged to lure businesses and banking talent away from the UK.

Brussels is planning to force the UK to accept an even higher divorce bill than the £52 billion already tabled.

The EU is only "financially" held together by the major contributions from Germany (£12.75 billion) and Britain (£8.6 billion).

Britain should pull the financial plug and see which countries will want to pay extra for the army of bureaucrats and their platinum-plated pensions.

With all this hostility the UK should refuse to discuss any divorce settlement and immediately halt all payments to the EU.
