NICOLA Sturgeon has no need to keep pontificating. A second independence referendum is not viable in the foreseeable future. The Scottish public has had a vote on this several times since 2014.

In every case, support for the SNP and its primary aim has dropped. All Ms Sturgeon is doing is advertising her desperate desire to keep her personal idea alive when almost no one else wants it. Tim Farron, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, resigned when his personal key issue got in the way, despite his party doing better at the General Election.

Given that Ms Sturgeon did considerably worse, perhaps the pathway is clearer for her too. Her administration has failed to run a devolved parliament successfully, never mind an independent country. Scotland needs to go in a new direction with the Union as its core value.

AS Jeremy Corbyn triumphs at Glastonbury, Nicola Sturgeon must be even more terrified of the possibility of an autumn election. Real or a faux socialist?

Take your pick.

IT was heartening to see Jeremy Corbyn receive an ecstatic welcome from the poor and deprived at Glastonbury who paid £238 plus a £5 booking fee and hundreds of pounds more for accommodation in tents, yurts and gypsy caravans.

SENIOR SNP figures Pete Wishart, Mhairi Black and Nicola Sturgeon have objected to the appointment of Ian Duncan, MEP, who narrowly lost to Mr Wishart in the General Election, to the unelected House of Lords.

They have a point, especially since none of the 21 SNP MPs who lost their seats in the General Election on June 8 would accept such ennoblement. I will, however, be interested to see how many of them accept unelected jobs in the publicly funded Scottish quangos and the non-governmental organisations in the next few months.

I will also be keen to understand the selection process.

IT must be a close run thing between Donald Trump and Theresa. May One tweets and the other cheeps and neither is believed at home or abroad.
