BEFORE we rush to an airport alcohol ban (“Some sobering thoughts on this idiocy in plane sight”, The Herald, August 16) we should stop and think about the speed bumps on our roads. These came about because there was not a sufficient deterrent to stop the minority of speeding drivers, with the result we all got punished.

The same situation will apply to all decent air travellers though a drunken minority again being let off with soft sentences in our courts.

Airports should have the authority to breathalyse passengers whom they suspect of having had too much alcohol.
