I AGREE with my near neighbour JA Taylor (Letters, February 16) on the unacceptable state of some of our local roads. I would go further and nominate that part of the A735 in Dunlop running from the railway station to the village outskirts at the Hapland Cottages for an award for being the worst, bone-jarring “surfaced” stretch of road at least in Ayrshire, if not elsewhere. Perhaps The Herald could run a competition for such an award to try to shame the responsible local authorities into remedial action?

Alan Fitzpatrick,
