AT the weekend, after cycling out with friends, my husband and I had lunch in Kirkintilloch and then cycled home to Glasgow via Lenzie and Stepps. As we pedalled along Lenzie Road towards Stepps I was horrified to see how many cans and bottles and the like were on the verge, apparently thrown out of passing cars, and the bottles were predominantly in the distinctive green of that tonic wine so popular in the West of Scotland. So, I wonder, is its popularity growing in the affluent, or perhaps no longer affluent, suburbs of East Dunbartonshire or is it a tipple of choice of North Lanarkshire residents when they take a trip out in the countryside?
