IT is a wise adage, "be careful what you wish for". Last week in the Letters Pages (March 6) i let it be known that I would prefer either a snow-blower, a snow-plough or a flame-thrower as a Mothering Sunday gift; in preference to chocolates.

On the day in question my family arrived with a snow-plough affixed to the front of a "winter service truck". The specifications give the overall height, width, length, speed, piston capacity, horse power, number of cylinders and nominal speed. It is a model Siku 1898, painted a tasteful yellow and beautifully wrapped in pink paper with bows and ribbons, so now I have to put on my warm clothes, go outside, find some of the fast-melting snow and play at being a snow-plough driver. I had better hope that the neighbours don’t see me.

I was also given chocolates.
