I FIND myself at odds with Alan Jenkins when he contends that the state’s presumed consent for organ donation is ethically wrong (Letters, June 15).

As long as an individual has had the opportunity to opt out I have no problem with the ethics of using viable organs to give the gift of life to a recipient.

Given that safeguard, instead of questioning the state’s ethics perhaps one could question the ethics of some of us for failing to opt in; due in most cases I guess to just never "getting round to it".

ALLAN Jenkins's lucid and morally correct criticism of the Scottish Government's arrogation of the right to use body parts without stated indicates, as with the Named Person scheme, a willingness of the Scottish Government to ignore legal and ethical considerations in pursuit of perceived populist policies. Is this what we will be subjected to in an independent Scotland?
