I REFER to your article “Obscure rule threatens turmoil in schools shinty” (June 19).

Is there a quicker way to kill off interest in shinty than to allow the reintroduction of the rule to outlaw teams drawn from schools with more than 150 pupils to compete in key national competitions?

Surely there are enough people with the good sense in shinty clubs throughout the country to ensure they find a way to change the minds of, or overrule, the members in the Camanachd Youth Committee.

As a former player with Furnace and Glasgow University (in the 1950s and 60s) I had never heard of the rule and found your story almost unbelievable.
