DURING the European Championships the men's and women's cycling time trials took place and major routes were shut for 19 hours around Glasgow and Dunbartonshire. leaving people stranded for hours, forcing businesses to shut and employees unable to get to their work.

Do the moaners not realise that cycling is "saving the planet" and that this will soon be the only method of travel when the green zealots take over power – or have they already done so?

Do the moaners not realise that the hundreds of millions spent in Scotland on specialised cycle facilities is well worth the additional taxes?

Objecting to the fact that cyclists pay nothing towards these specialised facilities, need no identification, no insurance and face no sanctions for riding on the pavement or crashing red lights is extremely petty.

Reality check.

Cyclists can afford to fill up their vehicle fuel tank and take off for some remote location, buy expensive bikes and wear expensive clothes but for some strange reason cannot afford a bell.

They should pay for an annual cycling licence and visible identification.

Oh sorry, forgot, they are "saving the planet".
