Congratulations are already due to all involved in Team Scotland at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The achievement of Alex Marshall and Paul Foster in securing the team's 12th gold medal took them beyond the 2006 Scotland squad's haul in Melbourne, allowing the host nation to declare this their best games.
Libby Clegg's victory in the T12 100 metres means Team Scotland now has 33 medals, equalling the highest total Scots have ever achieved, at the Edinburgh Games in 1986.
It seems inconceivable that they will not surpass the previous record. This seems to bear out recent comments by Glasgow University sports scientist Victoria Penpraze, about the value of home advantage in major sporting events.
Ms Penpraze argues that familiarity with the culture plus vociferous home support can boost a team, and that this can outweigh the burden of heightened expectations.
That may be the case. But Scotland's victorious athletes nevertheless deserve great respect for the dedication and talent that lie behind their achievements, while their coaches and backroom teams can be quietly satisfied with progress so far. Here's to more medals to come.
