After the initial announcement of the Scottish Government's Expert Working Group on Welfare, there was some comment on there being no women involved ("All-male panel criticised", The Herald, January 8).

While the appointments were made on the basis of expertise and experience, I recognise that the point on female representation was fair.

On Monday, prior to the publication of Angela O'Hagan's comments, I moved to announce that Lynn Williams, policy officer at Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations, would join the group. She will bring valuable carer and third-sector experience.

The Government also looks forward to engaging with the Scottish Women's Budget Group, both on welfare reform and wider issues, as we progress our positive agenda for Scotland.

Deputy First Minister,
