IT was heartening to note the acclaim justifiably accorded the late Cathy Paver (“Tributes to shoe tycoon who started with £200 sofa loan”, The Herald, February 10). In particular the duping of her then bank manager in authorising her business start-up loan was of interest. In that era many bank customers were subjected to regular reviews and criticism by managers often revelling in their own self-importance.

It does appear times have changed, especially since the banking fiasco of 2008. In fairness surely the redeeming face of modern banking is that of the front-line staff.
