YOUR report on problems involving teenage gangs at Hamilton Central station – that the police can do nothing because they are juveniles – is not correct (“Staff ask for transfers out of ‘war zone’ station”, June 20). The police can and should refer young people they believe are offending to the children’s reporter.

The police are the main source of referrals to the Children’s Hearing System, the appropriate forum for dealing with under-16s who may have offended.
