THE photograph in (Those were the days, The Herald, June 23) shows sweating citizens queueing in George Square to slake their thirst at the well adjacent to the long-departed Crum Fountain, whereabouts and eventual fate unknown.

If it is still intact and it is not deemed fitting to return to its rightful place in the square, surely a suitable site could be found for it in Rouken Glen, next door to Thornliebank, whose existence was largely due to the employment of locals in the extensive Crum enterprises in the district?

IN the background of this photograph, leaning on a metal box, is a man dressed in smart suit, shirt and tie and wearing a hat. I am surprised he was not singing to the crowd as he looks so much like a certain Mr Sinatra.
