THAT intrepid hunter of the internet, David Stubley, has yet again told us that, in his expert opinion on all matters zoological, he has uncovered a “fact” that an escaped lynx in Devon was the killer of “sheep” when the hearsay evidence was the finding of some dead lambs (Letters, August 5).

This was possibly the result of killing by any number of domestic animals such as dogs or, as seems likely, predation on stillborn lambs (“Lynx backers tell farmers to put llamas on guard to protect sheep”, The Herald, August 4).

Mr Stubley would perhaps have missed my point on wild lynx being an occasional feeder on carrion. He should realise the difference between fact and fantasy.
