WINTER has come. The dark mornings, afternoon and evenings are with us and the cold winds of winter also.

With that in mind I thought it time to invest in a warm winter anorak or similar but ended up somewhat dismayed.

In every High Street retailer the choice was between black, grey, navy or dark brown.

I must confess I did begin to wonder if it was the aim of high street retailers to camouflage us so that we can more easily be hit by vehicles on our roads.

It did answer a question that has been in my mind for some time – why do cyclists and pedestrians so often insist on wearing black and hiding at the edge of roads to be struck by passing vehicles at this time of year?
