WITH the voting record of the Labour Party at Holyrood, I was rather puzzled to read your article which saw the Labour Party accuse the SNP Government of missing its projected targets on house building (“Homes pledge behind target”, The Herald, November 15). The Scottish Government has a very ambitious housebuilding programme (50,000 in this term of government) and in demonstrating this plan pledged £470 million in the Scottish Budget this year, a budget the Labour Party voted against. This begs the question, and bearing in mind Labour’s record when last in power in Scotland, what would be Labour’s housebuilding spend and targets?

In light of those criticisms it may worth reminding ourselves of the record of the last SNP administration which had a target of 30,000 affordable homes – 33,490 achieved, 6,000 of which were council homes.

Housing is a basic need for us all and the SNP’s plan for building homes that are for life, homes that can be adapted for specific needs as residents age is certainly forward-thinking.

I would urge Labour and other opposition parties at Holyrood to get behind these ambitious targets and proposals instead of only being negative.
