I BELIEVE there is a more practical reason for bloggers turning the spines of their books to the wall, and it has nothing to do with interior design fads ("Novel way to store books leads to string of abuse for lifestyle writer”, The Herald, January 17).

By ensuring blog readers cannot see what books they have, they enjoy the benefits of appearing cultured without running the risk of offending viewers – and in turn advertisers – who may take exception to their choices of reading materials on any number of ideological grounds.

It is more a symptom of our current censorial zeitgeist and the ceaseless pogroms against thought criminals by self-appointed moral guardians left and right with their asphyxiating zealotry.
