I WOULD like to say “thank you” to The Herald for regularly including a copy of the Scottish Review of Books (SRB) with the newspaper. I read the SRB with great pleasure and benefit. In the very best of ways it could be described as rather old fashioned.

The editor assumes that the reader is willing to sit down and read a lengthy, probing interview with people of note. Reviewers are also given a reasonable amount of space. As most of the critics have definite views they are happy to express in an uninhibited manner, the reviews are particularly stimulating. Long may the SRB thrive and long may The Herald maintain an arrangement so beneficial to readers.
