WITH regard to the forthcoming 5G auction, you would have to laugh otherwise you would just greet (“Ofcom to launch 5G airwaves auction after Three’s court challenge fails”, The Herald, February 14).

I would be ecstatic to have 1G where I live. Here in the East Neuk of Fife, not 30 miles as the crow flies from Edinburgh, and I have no signal at home. No amount of writing and phoning over the years has made any difference. Complaints to service providers and politicians go unnoticed.

Vast areas of the country have no signal but the Government plots ahead with this cash cow. It shows that ministers are interested in only one thing; money. The problem, like oil before it, is that they just squander the revenues to prop up the economy while not implementing a full and proper infrastructure. It has always been thus.

It is a disgrace but we seem powerless to stop government waste and incompetence. I can predict with 100 per cent certainty that 5G will not make one iota of difference to my 0G signal.
